Early Childhood Forest Adventures
On November 11, our Kindergarten students visited the forest that surrounds our campus with our Waldpädagogin (Forest Educator) for the first time this school year as part of a four-visit program. The students will look, listen, touch, and smell the forest and notice what is the same and what is different in autumn, winter, and spring.
During this first visit, students learned the names of trees, matched leaves on the ground to their trees of origin, and even used a rope to climb up and down a steep hill. They practiced moving safely and bravely and made nature art from leaves, sticks, stones, and seeds. The students also discussed how trees make their own food through sunlight, water, and air (photosynthesis) and how seeds travel by flying in the wind or traveling on animals and people.
We love seeing our students taking advantage of AISV’s close proximity to the famous Vienna Woods, allowing them to enjoy hands-on learning experiences as they explore the surrounding forest and biosphere!
