Applicants for teaching positions at AIS Vienna should possess strong verbal and written skills in English. Additionally, applicants should hold a BA or higher degree from an accredited college or university in the subject they intend to teach. A qualified Teaching Certificate will be expected. Two years, or more, of teaching experience is desirable.

How do I apply for a vacancy at AIS Vienna?

Applications must be submitted by email to hr@ais.at. Please send a cover letter and resume/CV as a single PDF and indicate the position you are applying for in the subject line. Please also indicate where/how you found the vacancy posting. Additional documents may be requested as specified in the individual vacancy posting.

How long does it take for an application to be processed?

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis as they are received. If your application matches the profile we are seeking, it will be forwarded to the respective hiring committee for review. If the hiring committee is interested in proceeding with your application, you will be contacted as soon as possible.

For International Hire positions: AIS Vienna will notify you if your application is not selected for further consideration. Candidates applying through recruitment agencies will be informed through the respective agency. If we decide to move forward with your application, we will arrange a virtual interview or, where applicable, meet with you at an upcoming recruitment fair we are attending.

How long does it take to make a decision on an advertised vacancy?

The timeline depends on the circumstances and the number of qualified applicants. Typically, an International Hire vacancy may take two to three months to fill from the time the position is first advertised. AIS Vienna reserves the right to make a hiring decision and close the selection process before the posted deadline if an outstanding candidate is identified early in the search process.

Does AIS Vienna consider candidates residing outside the US?

AIS Vienna recruits teaching and administrative positions on a broad geographical basis. However, Local Hire, Instructional Assistant, and Support Staff positions are typically filled with candidates already residing in the Vienna, Austria area.

I am registered with a recruitment agency that works with AIS Vienna. Do I also need to apply directly to AIS Vienna?

AIS Vienna may receive and review candidates through recruitment agencies as well as through direct applications. You are welcome to apply directly to hr@ais.at in addition to working with a recruitment agency. Please follow the application instructions provided in the individual vacancy posting.

Who is a locally hired teacher?

Locally hired teachers are individuals who have come to Vienna independently and are subsequently hired by AIS Vienna. They may, for example, have relocated to Vienna to accompany a spouse or partner or for another personal reason prior to being hired by AIS Vienna.

As AIS Vienna did not recruit these employees to relocate specifically for employment at the school, their employment contracts generally do not include relocation benefits such as transportation or shipping allowances. Salary and benefits related to the employment contract, such as health insurance and pension contributions, are included in the contract unless otherwise provided through another source, such as a spouse's or partner's employment contract.

When should I apply for a locally hired Instructional Assistant or Support Staff position at AIS Vienna?

Applicants for these positions must already be residing in the Vienna, Austria area and have the required residence and/or work authorization to be employed in Austria.

Applicants should follow the application instructions provided in the vacancy posting. AIS Vienna will consider applications only for currently advertised vacancies.

Do I have to pay to apply for a position at AIS Vienna?

AIS Vienna will not request or require applicants to pay application or interview fees or to cover visa, airfare, or other recruitment or relocation costs as a condition of employment. AIS Vienna will also not ask candidates to provide bank account details or other sensitive private information during the application process.

Information required for employment, payroll, immigration, or other administrative purposes will be collected at the appropriate stage of the recruitment and onboarding process.
