Walk for Water
On May 27, Elementary School students concluded weeks of preparation by participating in a Walk for Water event to raise awareness about water conservation and scarcity, while also raising money to support the Mukwashi Trust School in Zambia.
Throughout May, students participated in "Water Wednesdays" and various classroom activities featuring guest speakers and hands-on lessons. They also collaborated with the High School Environmental Club and the Grade Six Knights of Service. As part of these activities, ES students worked with older students to create informational posters highlighting the global effects of water scarcity and to place blue ribbons along the Walk for Water path.
During the Walk for Water, parents joined students from Pre-K through Grade 5 for a walk around campus. To better understand the daily challenges faced by children living in water-scarce regions, students shared the responsibility of carrying heavy buckets of water, averaging about one bucket for every four children. Following the campus walk, the Grade 5 students went on to complete a six-kilometer walk while carrying backpacks with water, which represented the actual distance that women and children must travel to secure water in areas of extreme scarcity. Afterward, the students used the water they carried to water plants around the campus.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents who joined or supported this year’s Walk for Water event. Together, we increased our community's understanding of water as a valuable resource and raised €6,100 to support the Mukwashi Trust School. Special thanks to Ms. Rory Pickett for providing excellent learning engagements over the past month and coordinating the event, and to Mr. Kilian Kröll for sharing vital information about the Mukwashi Trust. Your collective support has been truly invaluable!
