Award-Winning Author Tonio Schachinger Visits AISV

On January 26, the High School HL German B class had the honor of hosting Tonio Schachinger, the winner of the German Book Prize and author of Nicht wie ihr and Echtzeitalter. Mr. Schachinger joined our students around the classroom’s usual round table. This setting, with everyone sitting near one another, created a relaxed atmosphere that allowed for a profound exchange of ideas.

The visit served as a vital component of our students’ academic preparation, particularly for their German oral exams that followed in the weeks after the visit. Each student in the class actively participated, asking at least two questions that they had carefully prepared. Their inquiries were insightful, ranging from personal questions about Mr. Schachinger’s cultural background to technical questions regarding his creative decisions and the overall writing process.

By discussing how to bring a book to life directly with the author, the class gained a unique perspective on literature that is rarely available in a standard classroom setting. Our students feel incredibly fortunate and privileged to have hosted such a distinguished figure in literature and are already looking forward to his third book.

We would like to thank the Annual Fund for providing the support necessary to make this inspiring visit possible! Click here to read the full article, in German, written by three of our High School German students.
