MS Field Trip Day

On May 6, our Middle School students embarked on various field trips with their grade levels. Students had a fantastic time learning beyond the classroom and campus walls.

Grade 6 students enjoyed an enriching adventure to Garten Tull, nestled just outside the charming city of Tulln. During this field trip, students immersed themselves in the wonders of nature, engaging in a range of outdoor activities designed to foster a deeper appreciation for the environment. From conducting pond studies and biodiversity scavenger hunts to learning about composting, insect life, and tasting herbs on a guided tour, the day was filled with exploration.

Grade 7 took a trip to the Roman archaeological site of Carnuntum to improve their knowledge of archaeology and deepen their grasp of Roman history through a guided tour of the settlement. Students spent the day touring the grounds and participating in activities designed to bring history to life.

Half of our Grade 8 students participated in an exchange with the students from the Clara Fey Schule, a school in the 19th District for children with intellectual challenges. They spent the morning engaged in a variety of creative and athletic activities with about 30 Clara Fey students. The afternoon was devoted to an activity related to their Service Learning Project with the Clara Fey School. “Different, not less!” is the sentiment we weave into and live on this day.

The second group of Grade 8 students visited the Dialogue in the Dark experience and took part in a bouldering session. This field trip also provided experiences directly connected to their Service Learning Project, focusing on fostering inclusivity and empathy for people with disabilities. They explored the everyday barriers encountered by people with disabilities and brainstormed practical solutions to reduce them. It was an invaluable opportunity to reinforce the concepts and ideas students have been focusing on in their service learning this year.

By integrating these local experiences into our curriculum, our students effectively use Vienna as an extended campus. This approach allows our students to treat the city’s rich cultural and social landscape as a functional workspace for real-world learning.
