Visiting Music Professors Inspire Our Young Musicians

The Music Department was delighted to welcome two visiting music professors from the United States. Dr. Zach Buie, Associate Professor of Music at Boise State University, is a versatile trumpet player performing in venues around the world as an orchestral, jazz, and studio musician. Dr. Kevin Whalen, Associate Professor of Trumpet and Jazz Studies at Texas Tech University, is an accomplished jazz trumpeter, having played with the Glenn Miller Orchestra and the Grammy-nominated University of North Texas One O'Clock Lab Band.

Both Dr. Buie and Dr. Whalen began their careers as educators and greatly enjoyed working with our students to support music education. They gave inspiring master classes and rehearsal clinics with our middle and high school bands, offering their guidance on technique, expression, and performance.

With our Grade 5 students, they shared a workshop entitled "A Musical Life", exploring music and daily life, including professional areas like music management and music technology.

Of course, all our students got to hear their amazing playing! Thank you, Dr. Buie and Dr. Whalen!
