AISV Hosts and Shines in NESDA Fall Tournament
From November 22 to 24, the New European Speech, Debate, and Acting (NESDA) Fall Tournament was hosted by AIS Vienna.
Over the course of three days, over 100 students from nine different international schools competed in six different events. Our team of student volunteers, under the leadership of Vivienne Wagner and Arden Hengstler, worked tirelessly over the weekend as timers, envelope runners, tour guides, and organizers extraordinaire. Even though many of our students were actively participating in the tournament and were busy with extra responsibilities, they still found time to learn and practice their pieces and gave strong performances in the tournament.
Congratulations to our amazing team! Every student on the team qualified for advanced rounds in at least one event. All three of our seniors competed in the Finals! Evy Shambers placed 4th in Impromptu Speaking, Claire Zzang earned a bronze medal for Original Oratory and a gold medal for Oral Interpretation of Literature, and a gold medal along with Alexandra Iovu for Impromptu Duet Acting. Claire and Alexandra also won the Student Choice Award in this category.
This massive tournament requires the support of an entire community, and AIS Vienna stepped up to showcase our talents not only as speakers and actors, but as a welcoming and inclusive school.
Nicole Forbes Wagner and Lindsay Rowland, acted as Co-coaches and Co-Directors of the event. Almost 50 members of our faculty, staff, and greater AISV community served as volunteer judges for the 26 rounds of the events! AISV’s commitment to students also shone in the administration's unwavering support, and the unbelievably amazing efforts and coordination of our Events Office, without whom our tournament would not have been possible. From the Werkstatt to the Cafeteria staff to the teachers who shared their rooms, our school proved that we live our mission.
Congratulations to our HS Speech, Debate, and Acting Team and coaches, and our entire AISV community for this spectacular showing!
