High School German Classes Explore Berlin’s Cultural Legacy

From March 26 to 29, our High School Advanced A and B German language students visited Berlin.

The group started by exploring the era of divided Germany, walking along the East Side Gallery and visiting the DDR Museum. During their visit at the Jewish Museum, the striking architecture created a powerful atmosphere for their workshop on the history of Jewish life and the importance of standing up against prejudice today.

The experience was balanced by a student-led tour through the heart of the city, where students acted as historians to explain the significance of landmarks, ranging from the Brandenburg Gate to Museum Island. The group also looked toward the future by visiting the government district. Seeing the Reichstag and the Chancellery up close gave our students a real sense of how modern democracy works in practice. They also enjoyed a play about digital citizenship and a trip to the cinema, where the group watched an award winning German/Turkish film.

The trip was an incredible opportunity for the group to step out of the classroom and truly immerse themselves in the stories that shaped the world we live in today. The students returned home with more than just facts; they came back with a deeper understanding of how the past informs our present.
