Grade 1 Engineers Explore Light & Sound
On Wednesday, October 29, our Grade 1 students invited their parents into the classroom for a Celebration of Learning event showcasing their engineering creations.
Grade 1 students read the award-winning book Orion and the Dark, which tells the story of a boy who is afraid of the dark until Dark visits him and takes him on an adventure. The story served as inspiration for their projects. Students were challenged to design a device that could communicate using light and sound, something they might use if they ever found themselves, like Orion, feeling afraid of the dark.
This project encouraged students to think like true scientists and engineers. They practiced the engineering design process to bring their ideas to life by drawing up plans and building their own machines.
The event was a wonderful success. Both students and parents enjoyed sharing in the excitement of discovery and creativity!
