The AIS Music Department is committed to providing a comprehensive curriculum to its students. Our youngest learners begin with choir in Pre-K, our strings program is compulsory for all Grade 2 students, and older students are given the opportunity to explore music more deeply in specialized band, choir, and strings classes. The American High School Diploma requires all High School students to complete two years of music education. AIS is a member of The Association for Music in International Schools (AMIS), a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of excellence at all levels of music education. AIS students regularly audition and are chosen to participate in the various honor music festivals that AMIS sponsors annually.

General Music

General Music is offered to all Elementary School students and includes rhythm, music theory, and percussion instruments.

The AIS Band Program is available for Middle and High School students. Students in Grade 6 may join the band and learn a new instrument, while any students with former experience in Middle or High School bands are able to transition directly into our program. The MS and HS bands have also been fortunate enough to to hold yearly performances in the Golden Hall of Vienna's Musikverein.

The AIS Choir is open to Middle and High School students. The program is performance-based and represents AIS in venues around Austria and internationally, including recent invitations to Carnegie Hall and annual festivals in Oman. The High School choirs study one large classical work annually to perform in various prominent Viennese venues. A close connection gives our students the opportunity to spend some time working with Gerald Wirth, the director of the Vienna Boys Choir.

The AIS Strings Program is offered from Grade 2 through Grade 12. Students can choose from violin, viola, cello, or bass.
