How do I apply?
Applications for open positions, as well as for ongoing recruitment programs, must be submitted through the APLi recruiting system. See Current Vacancies for more details. To apply, create a Candidate Profile in the online system, as AISV does not accept applications or CV's outside of the AISV applicant tracking system. There is no membership fee involved for non-Search Associates candidates. Early submission is encouraged.
How long does it take for an application to be processed?
Applications are usually reviewed within one week of closing the vacancy. If your application matches the profile we seek, our principals will send it to the search committee for review. If the search committee expresses interest in your application, you will be contacted within a few weeks. The AISV/APLi system will notify you if your application was not selected for further review. If we decide to pursue your application, we will arrange to meet at one of the recruiting fairs or via e-interview.
How long does it take you to make a decision on an advertised vacancy?
It depends on the circumstances and the number of qualified applicants. Typically, for an internationally posted vacancy, it can take two-three months from the time the position is first advertised. Please note that AIS Vienna reserves the right to make an appointment or close the selection process before the posted deadline in the event an outstanding applicant is identified early in the search process.
Does AISV consider candidates residing outside the US?
AISV recruits teaching and administrative positions on a broad geographical basis. Support staff positions, however, are filled with candidates already residing in the local Vienna, Austria area.
I am registered with a recruitment agency you work with, do I also need to register with APLi via your school website?
You are required to apply via APLi; our principals will also search for candidates at recruitment agencies (listed above). We encourage you to use both to increase your chances that your resume will be seen. Please note that applying via our website through APLi is free of charge.
Who is a locally hired teacher?
Locally hired teachers are those who have come to Vienna of their own volition and are subsequently hired by AISV. Their decision to come to Vienna may be to accompany a spouse or partner working in Vienna, or any other circumstances that would cause them to be here prior to the hiring process. Since the school has not recruited these employees to come to Vienna specifically for work at AIS, the employment contract will not include support benefits such as transportation, shipping, etc. Salary and benefits that are related to the work contract, such as health insurance, will be included in the contract unless provided through the spouse's contract in Vienna.
What is a locally engaged/no-expatriate-designed position for support staff?
All applicants must be residing in the local Vienna, Austria area and have the required residence permits for employment in Austria. Applicants are quested to follow the application procedures as indicated on the announcements. Only applications for advertised vacancies will be considered.
Do I have to pay to apply for a position?
AIS Vienna will never ask or require applicants to send money for application fees, interview fees, visas, plane tickets, or other costs associated with recruitment or moving to Austria. AIS Vienna will not ask candidates for information related to bank accounts or other private information. Specific information will be collected only after a letter of intent or a formal contract has been signed. If you have been asked by AIS Vienna or another international school to send money to cover such costs, you are probably the target if an elaborate scam. Several good international schools have recently had their websites cloned, and candidates have been asked to send large amounts of money. All international candidates are urged to be vigilant in investigating potential schools during the recruiting process and prior to signing a contract. Use extreme caution if you have been asked for money or private information.
