Service Learning
AIS students learn through service, reaching out through the National Honor Society, Students for Tomorow, Habitat for Humanity, Young Amnesty International, and many other groups. AIS continues to integrate Service Learning projects into the school curriculum. Students also develop individual service programs for the International Baccalaureate diploma.
Service Learning combines service objectives and learning objectives with the intent that the activity changes both the recipient and the provider of the service. It offers structured opportunities not just for acquiring skills, values, and knowledge but also for self-reflection and self-discovery. We have made a commitment to Service Learning by naming three teachers to lead our effort and taking students to conferences to understand Service Learning and to share ideas as to how to make it part of our school culture.
