HS Strings and Choir in Beijing - February 2011
Grade 6-12 Choirs

Grade 6 General Music and Choir Wheel
One quarter of music theory and learning to sing. Two and three part music. Concert for parents at the end of the quarter.
Grade 8 Choir Wheel
One quarter of singing and studying harmony. Students work on vocal production and the changing voice.
HS Choirs
High School students can sing their entire High School career at AIS. Choral music is usually in four parts - Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass. Singers learn many styles of singing and give concerts throughout the entire year. Some of these events are outside of AIS, such as our performances this year of Vivaldi’s “Gloria” in the Kammeroper in Vienna and St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice.
Allegro MS Girls Choir
This choir meets on Tuesdays from 15:30-16:40. Advanced singing for girls in three-parts. We work around the other after-school activities to keep girls singing and active in our MS programs.
Vivace MS Boys Choir
This choir meets during the O Block rotation. Middle School boys were invited to join this elite group. Soprano, Alto, and Baritone are represented in the ensemble. They will choreograph their selections this quarter.
MS Advisory Choir
All Middle School students meet by grade level to sing for 40 minutes once in the 8-Day rotation. This keeps our students active in music and the entire middle school learns the same songs, usually on advisory topics like friendship, Earth Day, and student issues. Our entire MS sang in February in the United Nations for an anniversary celebration with Ban Ki Moon.
Honor Choir MS
Students in grades 6-8 may audition for a place in a select Honor Choir. Singers must be part of the AISV choral program to participate. Six students are allowed per school. A choral director from a participating school conducts each MS festival.
Honor Choir HS
Students in grades 9-13 may audition for a place in a select Honor Choir. Auditions consist of two vocalizes and a short song. Recordings are sent off for consideration and if accepted, students prepare 10 difficult choral selections for the three-day festival in an International School. Well-known choral clinicians are brought in to conduct this festival. The Association for Music in International Schools (AMIS) sponsors this event .
