Your Child and Social Media - Tonight!

Top

The world of social media has grown considerably in recent years, and as a result so has the accessibility to many different programs. Our students have access to many forms of communication. The use of these social media platforms can be constructive and a positive addition to our day-to-day lives, however, the same programs can be used inappropriately.

We would like to offer an opportunity to collaborate with our school counselor and tech facilitators to learn more about the world of social media, and how our students can use them effectively and appropriately. Please join us January 19, 7:00-8:30 PM in the Secondary Library or January 20, 9:00-10:30 AM in the Faculty Lounge.

We will share AIS statistics, concerns, resources and strategies to help us all use technology wisely.

Upcoming Events
January 23 - First day of 2nd Semester
January 30 - Report Cards sent via email
February 14 - Grade 11 Parent Night on university application process
February 20-24 - Ski Week (no school)

Semester Two Begins
With the conclusion of exams this week first semester work for our students is complete, but our teachers continue working on the assessment of those exams and finalizing semester grades. We will complete that process and email report cards to parents on January 30.

Next Monday, January 24, all AIS high school students have a fresh start for second semester. Students and parents are reminded that once the first semester grades are reported they do not impact second semester grades. Because of this fresh start we encourage parents to discuss with students their goals for second semester. Be it improving course grades or improving Life Skills Scores that directly impact course grades, now is the time for reflection and plans for improvement. Many of our students will be completing this process in class with their teachers, but support from home has a significant impact.

Since each course a student takes begins with the gradebook officially reset, parents are reminded that each of the first few second semester assignments will have a significant impact on the semester 2 total score. But over time as more and more data is collected to measure student learning, the changes in overall score will be less dramatic.

So many of our students have worked hard and had a great first semester, we eagerly look forward to an even more impressive second semester!

Jarret Lambie, High School Principal
