October 12 Director Coffee - New Strategic Plan & Campus Renovations
All AIS community members are invited to join me on Wednesday, October 12, 8:30-10:00, in the Faculty Lounge. At this Director Coffee, we will “unveil” our 2016-2021 Strategic Plan and walk you through the four areas for major school improvements over the next five years. Following this 45-minute presentation, we will go on a 45-minute tour of the campus to show you the many improvements -- from stadium seating to new classrooms -- the school undertook this summer.
I look forward to welcoming everyone next week -- please wear comfortable shoes!

The HS Musical - Into The Woods
| || |
The AIS Players will present a children's theater performance of ACT I of the musical Into The Woods on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, October 13, 14, and 15, 2016 in the AIS Theater. With music by Stephen Sondheim and story by James Levine, this clever and comical musical magically mixes five of the Brothers Grimm's most notable fairytales into a charming mess that, naturally, ends happily ever after. Tickets are €5.00 for students and €10.00 for adults and may be purchased during Middle and High School lunch periods and at the door before each performance. You may also make ticket reservations by calling our Receptionist Steffi Kuern at +43 1 401 32 2111.
Celebrate Halloween month with a wonderful High School performance of Into The Woods!

The AIS Song
| || |
It has become a tradition at every Elementary School concert to sing the AIS Song, written by the 4th grade in 2009. We would love for you to join us in song; it’s lovely when parents/teachers join their children/students in singing this song of friendship. Our first Elementary School concert will be the UN Day Concert on October 20 at 8:45 in the Mike Maloy Gym – we will be singing the AIS Song. Attached are lyrics and a recording of the Grade 4 composers singing it for the first time.
Please join us in singing the AIS song on UN Day.

October 13 – 15 HS Musical
October 19 – Standardized Testing Morning (MAP and PSAT)
October 24 - Nov 1 – School Break – No school
November 10 – Parent-Teacher conferences 17:00-20:30
November 11 – Parent-Teacher conferences 8:30-13:00
As we begin to near the half-way point of first semester our co-curricular programs begin to reach their culminating activities. Whether it is athletics, community service or the performing arts, our students are beginning to see the products of their collaboration, organization and hard work. In particular we would like to invite you to join us for our AIS players performance of the musical “Into the Woods” on October 13, 14 or 15. Our students have learned a great deal not only about performance, but about teamwork, perseverance and how to manage pressure! It will be a great show and we would love to see you in the audience.
On October 19 our grade 9 students will be sitting the MAP test while our grade 10 and 11 students sit the PSAT. Both tests provide us with information about how our students perform compared to other cohorts of students. Although these are not high stakes tests, the data is useful for us as a school and can help students plan course selection in high school and in university. Please encourage your children to take the test seriously but not to become stressed about the experience.
A special note, grade 9 students should bring their laptops, fully charged, on October 19 and drop them off in the assigned room as soon as they arrive at school so that we can start the exams on time.
