Ballet

Creative Dance/Pre-Ballet:
In the first group we will work very creatively. We will turn into princes and princesses, crocodiles, butterflies, ladybugs, elevators and cars and many other characters that teach us how to move our bodies correctly. At the end of the semester, the children should have a nice upright position of the body and know a few basic movements and steps of ballet.

Advanced Ballet:
This group already knows the basic ballet steps and we will continue our ballet work. At the end of the semester , the children should have more knowledge about barrework, floorwork, cross the diagonale and dance in the center. I will mix the lessons with short choreographies, so we get a nice repertoire. If you are not sure in which group you fit, register for either one of them and mention it in the comments section. The teacher will then decide where the child fits best.

We learn, build and play with LEGO® Bricks! Building interesting, mostly motorised LEGO® models we offer fun, enriching experience and educational play. Each unit starts with a short presentation of facts (app. 10-15 minutes) and background information regarding today's model (e.g. about various animals, transportation, space…) and then we build and play the Model(s) in pairs. Once the model is complete, children use the rest of their time to modify their model builds and collaborate with one another. All materials are provided, the model built cannot be taken home and remains property of Bricks 4 Kidz®. We integrate technique for children in a playful way into the daily school life.

Chess

Chess has plenty of educational benefits. Children learn to concentrate and be patient, to think before they take decisions, to feel responsible for their actions, to consider the other side´s possibilities, and to learn from mistakes. This course is built on the "Step Method", which has been developed in the Netherlands specifically for children. Simple games and chess puzzles prepare the children to not only master the rules but also to see captures, checks and checkmates at once. If you fully master the rules, have played chess occasionally and want to improve, or if you just want to learn the rules of the game. This course is for beginners and for advanced players and will teach you the most important tactical motives and basic winning strategies in a fun way. For the younger group there is a special booklet "stepping stones" without text and with more pcitures. For the older group a "Step Method" booklet is included in the price and there will be the possibility to take part in a competition.

Creative Play

There's no better way to end the day than having some time to play and engage in creative and imaginative games and activities. Play is critical for children’s development because it provides time and space for children to explore and gain skills needed for adult life. Children’s playtime has steadily decreased due to limited access to play spaces, changes in the way children are expected to spend their time, and digital media use. During our creative play students will be able to choose between stimulating games and craft activities. Children from PreK to 2 Grade can work and play together in Ms. Mortensen’s kindergarten classroom for 90 minutes (with a possibility of an early pick up after 60 minutes) starting at 3:20. Please mention in the comment section whether your child wants to stay for 60 or 90 minutes.

Scratch Lab - Creative Coding

Kids learn to code by creating their own video games, animated stories, and interactive art. They build their projects in Scratch, an MIT-developed computer programming language for children. Our teachers provide inspiration and support as students experiment, tinker, create, and share. Scratch Lab is a warm and supportive learning community. It is social, hands-on, artistic, and fun. Between weekly classes, students are able to develop Scratch projects at home, publish their work online, and introduce Scratch to siblings, parents and friends. This is a great class for beginners and for experienced Scratchers.
Visit http://myerslearning.com/AIS.pdf for a flyer and live links to two 3-minute videos which show the fun and value of learning to code.
