It is the unique responsibility of the School Board to hold the school’s future “in trust”. Although the challenges and demands of Board membership are considerable, so are the rewards. Just ask some of our current Board members who have been entrusted with this great responsibility. With their fellow Board members, in partnership with our Director, they provide leadership and support as the school strives to achieve its mission.
The Executive Board is the governing body of the school and the Association (parents) can elect eight members to serve on this Executive Board for a two year term. Executive Board members must be current parents at the school or associate or honorary members. For this Executive Board election two of the four open positions must be filled by US citizens. Executive Board member terms commence on 01 July and end on 30 June.
The Executive Board is responsible for governing the Association/Verein in accordance with the applicable laws, the By-laws of the Association/Verein and the decisions of the General Assembly. Being on the Executive Board means you and your fellow members, in partnership with the Director, provide leadership, good governance and support as the school strives to achieve its mission in the service of student learning. The Board focuses on strategic issues and on the long-term well-being of the school. This allows the Director to take responsibility for the day-to-day administration and operations of the school, including all aspects of the instructional program.
The Executive Board shall have standing Finance, Policy and Governance Committees; each Executive Board member shall serve on at least one committee. For the purposes of the standing committees, click here.
Additionally, two of the three positions for the Auditing Committee are up for election. The Auditing Committee is independent of the Finance Committee and the Executive Board and it has oversight over the school’s major business and operational risks to assure the Executive Board that the risks are being identified and managed appropriately. Auditing Committee Members serve two year terms.
Please note: Auditing Committee Membership is not reserved strictly to parents / members of the AIS Community. They can be anyone whom we trust on the outside, preferably connected in some form of other with the AIS community, as long as they are not employees of AIS or the spouse of and employee.
